#WrapUpHomelessness in association with Peter McVerry Trust
Meaghers Pharmacy launches #WrapUpHomelessness, a Christmas charity campaign in association with Peter McVerry Trust, on Monday 13th November 2017 in collaboration with a number of Irish influencers. Events have been planned to help reach the target of €50,000 - DOUBLE what was raised throughout last year’s campaign. Events will include an exclusive Christmas Market, a company ‘sleep-out’, a beauty breakfast and a ‘Save or Shave’ fundraiser.
The campaign aims to help with the chronic problem of homelessness in our society.
>8,374 people registered as homeless September 2017
>There has been over a 20% increase in the numbers of people experiencing homelessness since this time last year.
>47% of people experiencing homelessness are 24 years of age or younger.
>There are 10 empty houses in Dublin for every homeless adult.
>In 2016, Peter McVerry Trust placed 98 people in their own homes
>95%; the rate at which people housed through the Housing First programme can sustain their tenancy.
Unfortunately, homelessness is increasing year on year at a rapid rate. Last year, #Wrap4Homeless focus was on providing beds for the night for those in need. This year, the aim is to raise enough money to create a permanent solution to homelessness for some people. A more permanent solution, a key in the door, a hearth, a home. This is the long-term vision of Peter McVerry Trust and #WrapUpHomlessness is completely aligned to this goal.
Meaghers has teamed with Peter McVerry Trust for the second year running and will tackle this issue on four fronts:
